Dr. Brad Cliff, Chair of Social Science
T
he Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Mathematics welcomes Dr. Brad Cliff as the new Department Chair for the Social and
Behavioral Sciences department.
Born and raised in West Tennessee, Dr. Cliff earned a bachelor’s degree
in physical education, a Master’s degree in exercise science and health
promotion, and a Ph.D. in Human Performance from Middle Tennessee
State University
With over 19 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Cliff has served
as an assistant professor, a tenured associate professor, and most recently
department chair of Health and Physical at Bethel University. Previously,
Dr. Cliff held faculty positions at Lambuth University, Stillman College,
and Lane College, respectively.

Dr. Anderson made history as the
first African American male who
graduated in May 2023 with a Ph.D.
in Applied Linguistics from the
University of Memphis. Daryl is
a graduate of Southwest. He also
teaches English Composition and
English as a Second Language for
the college.
Ibrahima Diallo, Math
Instructor, STCC Adjunct of
the Year Award
Congratulations to Mr. Ibrahima
Diallo for being selected to receive
the Outstanding
Adjunct Faculty
Award for the
2022-2023
academic year.
During his tenure
in the Math
Department, he has displayed
exceptional dedication to his
students’ success. He consistently
exhibits reliability and a willingness
to teach whenever and wherever
necessary. As a faculty member in
our Summer Bridge program, he
plays a pivotal role in preparing local
high school students for collegelevel coursework. Furthermore, he
actively contributes to our new Math
Learning Lab, providing assistance
to students who require extra support
with their studies. He often arrives
early and extends his help to students
beyond his scheduled work hours.
His contributions greatly benefit
Southwest, and we are delighted
that he has been recognized as an
Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member.

Congratulations to Dr. Marcia Hunter,
Professor of Psychology, on the
recent publication
of her book, Dream
Achievement:
The 6-Step Plan
to an Inspired Life
and Meaningful
Success. As
an e-book, Dr. Hunter’s book has
become a best seller on Amazon.com.

Memorial
In memory of Dr. Sharon Momany
a longtime music Adjunct in the
Communications, Graphic and Fine
Arts department.
Dr. Mom, as she
was affectionally
called, was a
dedicated Instructor
and loved by all.
Her kind and feisty
spirit will be missed by all who knew
her. As a testament to Dr. Mom’s
lifelong dedication to the education
of her music students she was named
the Greater Memphis Music Teachers
Association (GMMTA) Teacher of
the Year for 2023. Dr. Mom’s career
spanned many years over which
she was an educator, teaching at
various colleges in addition to ten
years as a piano teacher for CAPA
piano at Colonial Middle School.
Her long career included serving
as an adjudicator in five states in
addition to being a sought-after
accompanist for dance and opera.
She was a founding member of the
Germantown Symphony and a
longtime member of GMMTA.
Dr. Mom passed away Saturday,
July 29, 2023.
Retirements
Congratulations to Dr. Loretta
McBride and Dr. Malinda Wade
on their upcoming retirement. Dr.
McBride served the college for 32
years, and Dr. Wade was a faculty
member for 27 years. Both will retire
at the end of this Fall Semester.
We wish them well and thank them
for their many years of service to
college, our students, and the broader
Memphis community!

I want to wish each of you a Happy
Thanksgiving holiday. As I reflect on
this year, I want to express my sincere
gratitude for your commitment and
service to the college, the division,
and to our students. I hope you have
