We welcome
Fredrik Gustafsson
as Commercial
Product Manager
at Väderstad Parts
Fredrik Gustafsson is the new
Commercial Product Manager for spare
parts. As such, he will be responsible
for the strengthening and strategic
development of our spare parts business.
This is a newly created position at Väderstad, but the
challenge itself is nothing new for Fredrik, who has held
various similar jobs in his career. He has spent much of
his professional life selling spare parts, both original and
non-original. And excitingly, he already has ideas about
what he can do to give Väderstad’s offering a further boost.
“A good offering doesn’t have to be all about low prices,”
says Fredrik. “For many customers, availability and service
are at least as important. In my view, we can work even more
on categorisation and simplify the structure of our business.
We need to offer our customers a deal that, taking everything
into account, makes it more advantageous to buy from us
and less attractive to buy non-original parts.”
Fredrik has a good insight into the non-original parts industry,
through his background as product manager for a company
that sells parts to the forestry and horticulture industry.
“We competed with several big, strong brands, and we
were often really successful. You have to have respect
for the copies. Those companies know what they’re doing

and they’ll always be there, but we can make it as easy as
possible to opt for the original.”
After a month or so at the job, our new Commercial Product
Manager has had time to familiarise himself with his new
workplace and business.
“Here at Väderstad, it feels like anything is possible. Nobody
talks about restrictions, only opportunities, which is going
to be very good for us. We work in an industry with a bright
future – one that will always be needed, even as it changes

Breaks

at depth
Väderstad now presents the new
shaped DeepLoosening point
further widening the toolbox for
the production of the perfect yield.
The point offers the possibility to increase the work
horizon down to 40cm working depth on TopDown and
Opus cultivators. It is mounted on the back-row of the
cultivator breaking up a path through cultivation pans and
compactions. The wide angled foot lifts the soil, cracking
it from above to further improve the drainage effect. This
can be an interesting alternative before planting tap rooted
plants sensitive to wet soil, such as oilseed rape.

• 40cm working depth
By minimising the impact of compaction or logged
water there is an increased possibility to even out the
result also in difficult parts of the field such as the
headlands. In many cases DeepLoosening replaces
the need for a separate subsoiler pass saving another
operation. The DeepLoosening point is shaped so that
it will not create and bring any clods to the surface.
The point can be combined with a number of different
Väderstad points to achieve a wide range of effects.
To maximise the economy of the DeepLoosening point it
has hard metal plates fitted, making it unsensitive to stones
and ensures a long working life. A benefit of the placement
behind the tine is that it has no negative implications of the
tine release height. This ensures that the machine will suffer
no damages when hitting larger obstacles.
DeepLoosening can be fitted to the tine cultivators Opus and TopDown.

500 Hectares harrowed with Marathon
25/35 points – and no wear in sight!
Magnus Lorin took over the family farm in Västerlösa outside Linköping in
2014. On his 500 hectares, he grows barley, wheat, beans and oilseed
rape, primarily for the farm’s egg-laying hens and integrated pig-farming.
Last year, Magnus replaced the points on his NZ Aggressive with Marathon
25/35 and the results have far exceeded his already high expectations.
“It comes down to cost, efficiency and performance in the field. I’m
sure these points are going to be the dominant choice in just a few
years’ time,” says Magnus. “I used to replace the points twice a
year, but I recently harrowed my 500 hectares with the Marathon
points on the harrow and there’s almost no wear on them at
all. Not having to replace the points saves me a huge amount of
time and I’ve already made back the cost of my Marathons. I’m
looking forward to using them for many years to come, and I’ve
put Marathon points on my cultivator as well.”
According to Magnus, there is no economic argument for using
anything other than the tungsten carbide Marathon points.
And he also sees other benefits that are at least as important:
“You get a much more even and final result over the whole
field. My old points wore unevenly so the working depth
became a little irregular. I previously spent a lot of time
keeping on top of the wear. Now I no longer have to
do that, and still I get finer and more accurate results.
When it comes down to it, the most important thing
is the end result.”
And word is spreading quickly.
“I’ve had many friends and acquaintances saying
they’ve reached the same conclusion, with
more and more of them switching to Marathon.
It’s hardly surprising. For a farmer, financial
cost, time and results are everything.”

Goosefoot
Goosefoot – the ideal
choice for organic farming
Organic farming is growing, meeting
the demands from customers all
over the world. A key part of organic
farming is mechanical weed control
and it is crucial to know how the
weeds work as well as how to
eliminate them effectively.
Over the years, Väderstad have been involved in the
organic development, with several machines and concepts
matching the needs of organic farming. A recent addition
is the new Väderstad goosefoot designed to provide full
cut-out and a long working life. After the weeds have been
cut by the goosefoot, the residue is left on the field surface
to decompose. The goosefoot provides a complete cut at
a shallow working depth, making the machine an effective
tool for mechanical weed control.
Goosefoot points can be fitted to the tine cultivator
Väderstad Swift, the tine harrow Väderstad Ferox
or the tine harrow Väderstad NZ Aggressive.

Wing shares
For Cultus, Opus,
and TopDown
GOOD TO KNOW!
With our full range of points for full cut, we
have something for any requirement. For the
tine harrow NZA we have the new goosefoot.
The goosefoot point is designed to slice
off all weeds across the entire width of the
machine. For our larger cultivators Cultus,
Opus and TopDown we have wing shares
that together with a cultivator point making it
a perfect combination for slicing weeds and
mixing. The wing shares are also available as
Marathon. All of our points are designed to
‘full cut’ and have the same profile to ensure
maximum durability whilst at the same time
ensuring the perfect cut.

Introducing
CrossCutter
Disc for
Carrier XL
In 2019, Väderstad will extend the
CrossCutter Disc range with a new disc
adapted for the disc cultivator Väderstad
Carrier XL 425-625. CrossCutter Disc will
make Carrier XL deliver full cultivation
at a working depth of only 3-5cm.

Part No: 208022
Väderstad CrossCutter Disc is a tool that reaches a new work
horizon without compromising work quality or capacity.
By only disturbing the topsoil, CrossCutter Disc conserves
moisture for the next crop.
“Just as CrossCutter Disc introduced ultra-shallow tillage for
the standard Carrier range in 2018, the new XL version of
CrossCutter Disc will make Carrier XL 425-625 go from deep
tillage to a minimum shallow working depth of 3cm. This will
allow for a new set of agronomical opportunities with Carrier
XL”, says Mattias Hovnert, SVP Sales & Marketing, at Väderstad.
“By cutting in its full working horizon, CrossCutter Disc
completely cuts the capillarity. This conserves valuable
ground moisture for the coming crop. The working depth
at 3-5cm ensures that a minimum amount of soil is dried
out, while the high amount of residues left in the topsoil
helps reflecting sunlight to further conserve moisture”,
says Mattias Hovnert.
Creating a shallow stale seedbed not only increases the
amount of seeds germinating, but it also reduces the time
needed for the seeds in the stale seedbed to emerge.
According to research comparing a weed seed put on 6cm
depth and a weed seed put on 4cm depth, results had a time
difference between 2.4 days for the weed seed to germinate,
grow and emerge.
“By reducing the time spent on waiting for the stale seedbed
to emerge enough to be eliminated, means that the following
crop can be sown sooner. Alternatively, this additional time
provides great opportunities for increasing the yield potential
by conducting value-adding field work before the next crop
establishment”, says Mattias Hovnert.
